Weekend in Alsace

Alsace is an amazing region that has changed hands between different countries many times throughout its history. This is reflected in its culture and makes it particularly attractive.
Our acquaintance with these lands began in the historical capital of the region, Strasbourg. Our first stop was Notre Dame Cathedral, considered one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in France. There we were amazed by the astronomical clock, where we could watch the fascinating procession of mechanical apostles. We strolled along the Vauban Dam and the Petite France district, and then moved on.

The Alsace region is like something out of a fairy tale: picturesque villages stretch along the border with Germany, and green vineyards stretch beyond the horizon.

The town of Colmar in northern France is considered the ‘pearl’ of the region thanks to its unusual ‘gingerbread’ architecture, numerous canals reminiscent of Venice, and the annual Christmas markets held here. We strolled through the ‘Little Venice’ district, which is a maze of narrow streets, canals and romantic bridges. The windows of the old buildings in the district are decorated with colorful geraniums, the unofficial symbol of the town.
Colmar has wonderful cuisine, and we will always remember our Alsatian dinner!

Our journey continued through cozy French villages,
colorful farms and beautiful hills.

These fairy-tale places beckon us back again and again, enveloping us in romance and a belief in miracles.
